“Before I Met You…”

An idea that came by and stuck around until I finished it.
The seventh panel looks like old school 3D glasses. :D
My sister asked me to do some illustrations for her. Most are very rushed, but I felt particularly happy with this one. I was inspired both by Rapunzel’s father in Tangled and Mr. Fredrickson from Up.
I think this image pretty much sums up Aleta’s relationship with her parents. In the story proper, Aleta is about 12, but here she’s about 7.
First pass at a logo for Wingless. I had a lot of fun, starting with one idea then transitioning and playing with it into the next. :3
A slight change for Aleta’s clothing (probably final) and introducing some of the other kids so far. Each one is based off a bird, featured atop the kid.
Fun note (fun to me, at least): All names are bird-related.
More character concept tryouts. This time we have a new color scheme for Aleta, and introducing her Dad and Mom. Dad’s coloring is based of the blue jay and Mom off of the Guatemalan Quetzal.
A little postcard made for my sister and her tumblr musings in femininity.
Self-portrait I drew to include on some of my cover letters. :)
The previous design for Cielo was simple bird’s nests. I felt like something more visual, so I’m trying out a “birdhouses in the sky” approach (above.)
And here’s a mostly finalized face and hair design for Aleta, the character who lives in the above orange-y house. Her coloring is based on the Puerto Rican bird Reinita Mora (pictured beside her and these are a few attempts to get her hair, face paints and hoodie down.

City of Cielo. First attempt.
